What is COM CARE?

College of Marin Crisis Assessment, Response, and Education Team

Purpose of COM CARE and the COM CARE Team

COM CARE exists to support the holistic wellbeing, success, and safety of students by connecting them with resources, guidance, and coordinated support when challenges arise. Grounded in restorative and trauma-informed practices, COM CARE recognizes that concerns related to academic performance, personal wellbeing, behavior, or basic needs are often interconnected and may reflect broader life circumstances. Through a collaborative, student-centered approach rooted in equity, the team works to understand each situation, identify appropriate support, and help students navigate barriers that may impact their ability to thrive. By promoting early intervention, reducing harm, and fostering a sense of belonging, COM CARE seeks to create a caring and inclusive campus environment where all students feel supported, valued, and empowered to achieve their educational goals.

How COM CARE Supports Students and the Campus Community:

  • Partnering with instructors and staff to identify and respond to concerns related to a student’s wellbeing or academic experience (e.g., absences, failing academic performance, failure to turn in assignments), with an emphasis on understanding context and offering support.

  • Connecting students to resources that address both immediate and long-term needs, including counseling, academic support, basic needs (e.g., housing, food, transportation, financial), mental health services, personal safety support, and access to technology.
  • Collaborating across campus through a coordinated, multidisciplinary, and equity-minded approach to support student wellbeing, promote resilience and accountability, and foster personal and academic growth.
  • Providing a pathway for students, faculty, staff, and community members to share concerns about the wellbeing of others, allowing for early identification, supportive intervention, and connection to appropriate resources.
