To promote the general welfare of the college community, College of Marin upholds the Standards of Conduct (BP 5500), which all students are expected to follow. The College is committed to fostering a safe, healthy, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where all members of the community can learn, work, and engage with dignity and accountability.
The Student Conduct process is grounded in fairness, equity, educational practice, and will not be used for retaliatory puposes. While students are expected to take responsibility for their behavior, the College also recognizes that conduct concerns often occur within a broader context. When appropriate, the conduct process considers the circumstances surrounding an incident and seeks to balance individual accountability with opportunities for learning and personal growth. Through a student-centered approach, the College strives to promote accountability, support student development, protect community wellbeing, and foster a culture of respect and belonging.
Alleged violations of the Standards of Conduct may result in proceedings under the Student Discipline and Due Process (AP 5520).

Through active engagement in campus activities and the student standards of conduct, students will enhance their critical thinking and communications skills, their social, cultural, and intellectual interactions, as well as, better understand their responsibility for oneself and the community.

This is in accordance with Board Policy 5500 "Standards of Student Conduct."
Academic Grievance
A complaint which involves a student and a member of the faculty is defined as a student academic grievance. Your grievance shall be limited to issues involved in grading, assignments, and demonstrated mistreatment. The process for such a grievance begins with an attempt by the parties involved to resolve the grievance informally.
