At College of Marin, we understand that youth coming from the foster care system face unique challenges in getting a college education. We are here to help current and former foster youth overcome these challenges through every step of the educational journey.


Eligibility

  • Students must have been in foster care on or after their 13th birthday AND
  • Currently be under the age of 26 at the start of the semester AND
  • Enrolled at College of Marin 
  • Verification of foster care status is required

Financial Assistance

Chaffee Grant

Current or former foster youth may qualify for up to $5,000 a year for their college education, monies that don’t need to be paid back. Use it to help pay for rent, books, childcare and more. The Chafee Grant can also be used after transfer to an eligible California college or university or career or technical school, and schools in other states.
