EOPS is the original equity program in California Community Colleges and has helped hundreds of thousands of low income, educationally disadvantaged students reach their educational goals.
Eligibility
To qualify for EOPS, students must satisfy all three eligibility requirements:
- Qualify for a California Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG)
- One of the following:
- First-generation college student
- Member of an underrepresented minority
- English is/was not the primary language spoken in the home
- Previously enrolled below college level math or English
- Graduated from high school with a GPA below 2.50
- Did not graduate from high school or do not have a GED
- Current or former foster youth
- Students must be enrolled as a full time student (12 units or more; some exceptions apply) AND must have completed fewer than 70 degree applicable units from any institution of higher education.

How to Apply to EOPS
Step 1:
Submit an application for admission to College of Marin
Step 2:
Complete the FAFSA, California Dream Act and/or California Promise Grant application and be eligible for a California College Promise Grant
Step 3:
Contact EOPS ([email protected]) to determine eligibility requirements and/or submit a program application
Step 4:
Attend a mandatory EOPS orientation

Eligibility
- Students must meet eligibility criteria as defined by Title 5 and the Chancellor's Office Guidelines
- Students attending multiple colleges must be attending College of Marin as their primary campus, in order to be eligible for the program

Maintaning Eligibility
- Complete a minimum of 3 counseling appointments each semester
- Maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) each semester
- Have an updated student education plan (SEP) on file
- Completed no more than 70 units of degree applicable coursework in any combination of post-secondary higher education institutions
- Enroll in a minimum of 6 units in order to be eligible for an EOPS book grant; any exceptions must be approved by the Director

EOPS Provisional, Dismissal and Reinstatement Status
- Students who fail to maintain eligibility automatically go on Provisional Status the following semester. Students must achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher and complete 3 counseling appointments during their Provisional Status semester in order to return to good standing in the program
- Students who fail to maintain eligibility during their Provisional Status semester may need to appeal to continue in the program.
- Students who fail to meet their program obligations may not be eligible to continue in the program the following semester. Students must wait one semester and reapply in order to be considered for acceptance back into the program
- Students may be allowed to remain on Provisional Status for more than one semester and/or complete an appeal more than one time if the circumstances regarding the failure to meet program standards are medical or catastrophic in nature. The Director will make the final determination for eligibility

Three Mandatory Counseling Appointments
- First appointment must be with an EOPS counselor only
- Mandatory counseling appointments can occur within a reasonable amount of time either before or after the semester. However, appointments from the previous semester cannot be counted towards the requirement for the current semester
- Meetings with EOPS staff (not EOPS counselors) can count towards second or third mandatory appointments, however two counseling appointments must be with an EOPS counselor
- Students who miss two appointments in a semester without notifying the office in advance of cancellation will only be allowed to make same day appointments

Attendance at another College
- New EOPS students who have attended any other institute of higher education before coming to College of Marin must notify EOPS staff at the time of orientation and provide unofficial transcripts before acceptance into the program
- An official transcript is required prior to the end of the first semester in the program
- Students who attended a foreign institution who are unable to get their transcripts for legitimate reasons, are eligible for EOPS if they meet the other eligibility criteria
Failure to disclose attendance at another institute of higher education will result in immediate and permanent disqualification from the EOPS program at College of Marin.

EOPS Lending Library
Students who borrow books or calculators from the EOPS Lending Library must complete and sign the EOPS Textbook Lending Agreement. By signing the agreement, students agree to return the book to the library by the last day of finals week of the current semester. Students must reimburse the EOPS program for the full amount needed to replace the book, should the book fail to be returned or is returned in poor condition.
