ESL Placement Process

English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses

College of Marin offers Academic and General ESL courses.
ESL courses are for students who want to study English for work and daily life or for Academic classes.

ESLN Level 10 to ESLN Level 50 are noncredit classes for students who have beginning to intermediate levels of English, and focus on English needed for daily life.

ESL Level 60 to ESL Level 80 focus on Academic ESL at the intermediate to advanced level.

If space is available, students can take many of these classes for noncredit. In this case, classes are free except for a small mandatory transportation fee. See the course schedule for ESL classes that have a noncredit option. Students who want to take the class for noncredit will be added to a waitlist. On the first day of class, students on the waitlist may be given an authorization code to register for the course if there is space available.
