Writers may work with instructors and writing specialists in a one-on-one tutoring session at any point in the writing process, from brainstorming for a topic, to developing and organizing ideas, to making final revisions. The Writing Center also provides computers for word processing and research purposes. Students can receive tutoring or work on computers at their own pace. English 120 students may fulfill the lab requirement in the Writing Center.

ONLINE WRITING CENTER (OWC)

The OWC is just a click away!

Free online writing tutoring is available to all currently enrolled COM students. The Online Writing Center (OWC) is open 24/7 and is staffed with experienced COM tutors—instructional specialists and English instructors—who help students with their questions. The site includes helpful grammar and composition links, as well as instructional materials about all aspects of the writing process. The COM writing tutors can help you with:

  • Writing assignments for all college subjects
  • Brainstorming, essay and paragraph organization, idea development, research, and grammar
  • College entrance essays, UC/CSU applications
  • Scholarship applications
  • Resumes and cover letters

All COM students and faculty can self-register to access the OWC by completing the following 3 steps:

  1. Login to your MyCOM account using your username and password.
  2. On the Quick Links menu on the left side of the screen, click on the "Moodle" link. If it is your first time in Moodle, you will need to agree to the usage terms before moving to Step 3.
  3. In the Tutoring block on the left side of the page, click on the “self-register” link. (If you don’t see the link, expand the block by clicking on the + sign next to the block title, Tutoring.)

If you need help, please send an e-mail to moodlehelp@marin.edu or visit the Writing Center in LC 120.
