What is Articulation?
Articulation is the process of creating formal agreements between colleges and universities that determine the transferability of courses as “comparable to” or “acceptable in lieu of” a specific course at the receiving institution. Articulation agreements determine which courses will transfer to meet admission, general education, or major preparation requirements for a specific academic program or degree. Successful completion of an articulated course assures the student and the faculty that the student has taken the appropriate course, received the necessary instruction and preparation, and that similar outcomes can be assured.
In short, the articulation process enables students to progress to the next level of instruction at their receiving institution using coursework from College of Marin!
Types of Articulation Agreements
General Education
General education articulation agreements identify courses that will meet the lower-division general education requirements at a given institution.
Course-to-Course
Course-to-course articulation agreements determine if a specific course taken at one institution will meet the requirements of a specific course at the receiving institution. This is most often used to determine preparation for a specific major.
Elective Credit
Articulation agreements can also determine a course's transferability as elective units to a given institution.
