Career Exploration Fair

COLLEGE OF MARIN’S CAREER EXPLORATION FAIR

College of Marin’s bi-annual Career Exploration Fair is scheduled for April 25th and will bring over 40 employers to connect with students at the Kentfield campus.   Various sectors will be represented, including health sciences, hospitality, tourism and retail, business, finance and administration, agriculture, landscape and natural resources, and community services.  The Fair is scheduled for late April to help students get a jumpstart on summer jobs that focus on professional development for College of Marin students, and not just on filling seasonal job openings.  To that end, we asked employers to highlight internship opportunities and positions within their companies conducive to refining students’ knowledge, skills, and level of competence in their respective fields.

The Career Advice Tent will be staffed by COM counselors and will give students a chance to polish their résumés and to practice their career pitch and interviewing skills.  The Career Advice Tent was a popular destination last fall with a steady stream of students waiting to talk to a counselor or to Jonathan Eldridge, who also helped staff the tent.  Students will also have the opportunity to get their professional photos taken or to stop by Bloom’s tent to update their career wardrobe.

In preparation for the Career Fair, the Counseling Office is hosting a series of events to help students prepare for their meetings with potential employers:

  1. College Central Automatic Pre-Registration – Every College of Marin Student will be pre-registered on the FREE collegecentral.com/marin website in early April.  All registered students will receive an activation email to their .mycom email address with instructions for activating their account using their MOO#.  Once activated, students will have access to the online job board that has over 1000 Marin-based employers who have already posted internships and full- and part-time jobs.  The job board is updated daily with new employers and new jobs.
  2. Career Exploration Class – Get prepared for your job search by enrolling in the Career Exploration class.  This introductory course provides students with a practical approach to making career and educational decisions.  Self-assessment inventories and assignments help students discover their interests, values, skills, lifestyle needs, and personality profile.
  3. Resume Review - COM students are invited to drop by to have their resume reviewed by the experts.  Counselors will be on hand to provide suggestions to make your resume more professional, polish your objective statement, and give input on formatting.  Stop by the Counseling Office in the Student Services Building on April 17th or 23rd from 10:30-12:30.
